FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a retractable packaging machine, in particular for groups of six PET packaging bottles, but more generally adapted for packaging articles using cold stretch film.
[0002] The present invention also relates to a packaging procedure. TECHNICAL STATUS
[0003] The current state of the art provides substantially for two different types of packaging systems for packaged items.
[0004] A first technique envisages the use of a heat-shrink film that is wrapped around the articles to be packaged and then shrinks adhering to its back when passed to a relevant oven.
[0005] A second technique provides for the use of a cold treatment retractable packaging machine in which a roll of stretch film rotates around a group of articles held by relevant means to hold said articles, such as, for example, in WO 1/024050 201. The advantage of such a solution is that the use of a thermo-shrink film oven is avoided, as well as less film to be used. The only disadvantage of using cold stretch film instead of heat shrink film is the impossibility of printing on such film as the print deforms in the step of stretching the film to make it adhere to the articles to be packaged.
[0006] Cold treatment shrink wrapping machines are, however, quite complex since the stretch film reel (which is quite large) is made to rotate around the items to be packed while they are still held for relevant means to maintain the same. This implies the need for sufficient space for the coil to rotate several times around the articles, as well as the need for special means, strong enough, considering the weight of the coil, particularly when it is almost full, which makes the coil rotate the items around at such a speed that packaging in a short time is allowed.
[0007] DE 10 201 1 081704 A1 shows a packaging machine in which articles are held laterally and the film is wrapped around them by means of rotations around a vertical axis. In the case where the articles are containers or bottles fed in an upright position, such a machine produces a package in which the film is laterally wrapped around the containers leaving the bottom and mouth of the containers uncovered (i.e., not packaged or protected) , which are therefore subject to becoming dirty without the necessary hygienic conditions, particularly for food containers.
[0008] The same disadvantages are also shown in document DE 3902919 A1. DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0009] The object of the present invention is to simplify the prior art cold shrink packaging processing machines to make them less expensive and more efficient.
[0010] Another object is to wrap the packages in such a way that the lower part and the mouth area and/or the lid thereof are covered and protected.
[0011] Said objectives are fully achieved by the retractable packaging machine according to the present invention, which is characterized by the content of the claims below and in particular by the fact that it comprises means that make the group of articles rotate around a horizontal axis, so as to drag the film around it, unwinding it from the reel, whose rotation axis remains fixed.
[0012] The present invention also relates to a procedure for cold packaging with stretch film, which is characterized by the content of the claims below and, in particular, in which the group of articles to be packed is maintained and placed in rotation of so as to drag the wrapping film around it, unwinding it from the reel, whose rotation axis remains fixed. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0013] These and other characteristics are illustrated in greater detail by means of the following description of a preferred embodiment, shown by way of a non-limiting example in the attached drawings, in which:- Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of the machine - Figure 2 shows a side view of the shrink packaging machine; - Figure 3 shows a side view of a detail of Figure 2; - Figure 4 shows a perspective view of a detail of Figure 1; Figure 5 illustrates the shrink wrapping machine in a different perspective view than shown in Figure 1; Figure 6 shows, with more complete details, a top view of the shrink wrapping machine; Figures 7A and 7B show a detail of Figure 6, referring to the means for holding and rotating the containers, in two different steps; Figure 8 illustrates a side view of the shrink wrapping machine from the opposite side with respect to that in Figure 2 and with more complete details. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION
[0014] With reference to the figures, 1 indicates in general a packaging machine, in the specific case of a retractable packaging machine, comprising an input conveyor belt 2 of the belt type for feeding the products / articles to be packaged ( typically PET containers), an output conveyor belt 3, of the belt type for sorting the packaged products, and a packaging station 5, placed between the two aforementioned conveyor belts.
[0015] The input conveyor belt 2 constitutes means for feeding the articles to be packaged.
[0016] The output conveyor belt 3 constitutes a means for unloading the packaged products.
[0017] A reel 6 of stretch film 7 is positioned at the base of the machine and the film is unwound originally by passing through two guides 8 symmetrically arranged on the sides of the film at a distance shorter from each other than the width of the film, so to create two thicker edges (grouped film and overlay as it is forced to transition in a width smaller than its own) on the outer sides of the stretch film 7.
[0018] The guides 8 have an easily adjustable positioning, as they are mounted on threaded supports.
[0019] A pair of rolls 9 (in the specific case two x2 rolls, but 2, 4 or 6 rolls can be used either above or below the film) positioned opposite the film loading zone, both above and below the film, and preferably inclined by 30° in relation to the film advancing direction (this angle can, however, vary from 15° to 40°) and internal to the guides 8, it produces more thickening of the film in the central zone adapted to give the product to the package more strength and to allow, by means of two simple linear parallel incisions, an identifier to give, in the thicker area arranged along the direction of advance of the products (and oriented upwards the two central bottles in the case of a set of six PET bottles).
[0020] The rollers 9 have an easily adjustable positioning, as they are mounted to slide into respective grooves 15 which they are then fixed using tightening screws 16, which are loosened in order to be able to reposition the rollers 9 .
[0021] The packaging station 5 comprises means 10 for retaining the items to be packaged, comprising a pair of C-shaped elements and movement means 11 to allow the pair of C-shaped elements to move horizontally , perpendicular to the direction of advance of conveyor belts 2 and 3 when approaching each other (during the packaging step) or when they separate (during the release phase).
[0022] According to an embodiment not illustrated, the means for holding can also move vertically by means of more relevant vertical movement means (pneumatic or motorized). In this case, the distance between the two conveyor belts 2 and 3 can be reduced as it is not necessary to create enough space for the rotation of the set of articles.
[0023] The means for retaining 10 is originally also means that place the group of articles 4 in rotation about a horizontal axis, so as to drag the extendable film 7 around it by unwinding it from the spool. The film is wrapped around the articles, covering and protecting both their bottom and their lid or mouth area, but leaving the partially uncovered side areas behind. This represents a clear advantage over prior art solutions, where the film is wrapped around the side surface of the containers (i.e. it only protects the label), but leaves the bottom and mouth uncovered and unprotected, which are more critical. from a hygiene standpoint.
[0024] According to the illustrations of Figures 6, 7A, 7B and 8, and in particular Figure 7A and 7B, the means for retaining 10 may comprise, according to an embodiment, two pairs of rotating vanes on its own vertical axis, activated by a small piston and a motor.
[0025] With respect to stretch film 7, as in pallet packaging machines and in the cold processing of prior art shrink wrapping machines, the film is pre-stretched while passing between the rotating rolls 12 at different speeds. It is then lifted by means of innovative air jets (emitted by a tube equipped with a plurality of holes) until it passes an opening/slot between the conveyor belts 2 and 3 resting against the advancing front of the articles to be packed.
[0026] At this point, the means to retain 10 intervenes (packaging step) also trapping the film.
[0027] Then, the means for retaining 10 are put in rotation by means indicated by reference number 13 and comprising a motor and several mechanisms, so that the group of articles is realized by means for retaining 10 drags the film. around itself, while that group is placed in rotation.
[0028] Before the means for retaining 10 start to rotate (but after they have gripped the group of items to be packed) a kind of trapdoor, not illustrated, opens until a distance d is defined between the two conveyor belts 2 and 3 in the forward direction of the conveyor belts in order to allow the rotation of the package of articles, without interference with the conveyor belts 2 and 3.
[0029] If, on the other hand, the means to retain 10 can also translate vertically (according to the embodiment described above), they are lifted, also lifting the package before starting the rotation and it is not necessary to foresee the use of the trapdoor, since a very limited distance d between the two conveyor belts are sufficient (substantially a groove of a few centimeters to allow the passage of the film).
[0030] After a few turns in the direction of arrow 14, the group of articles is wrapped in a sufficient amount of film and then a glowing wire is moved vertically by pneumatic means up to cut the film in a known manner.
[0031] After that, the trapdoor is closed again (or the means to hold is reduced until the articles are brought back to the conveyor belt), and the means to hold 10 is opened (release step) allowing the package to of articles can be unloaded via the output conveyor belt 3.
[0032] Substantially, if the means for retaining 10 are not equipped with vertical movements, it is necessary to provide the trapdoor and distance d wide enough to allow rotation of the package without hitting the conveyor belts, whereas, if the means for retaining they are also equipped with vertical movement, the package is lifted before being rotated and therefore a small gap between the conveyor belts is sufficient for the film to pass, and it is not necessary to create a large gap between them.
[0033] The film 7, which is unwound from the reel 6 and is fed to the packaging station 5, by means of a perforated conveyor belt 15.
[0034] This is a rotating conveyor belt provided with a plurality of holes and internally equipped with suction means adapted to keep the film adhering to the belt on the way to the packaging station.
[0035] The film is then pushed upwards through the opening or groove present between conveyor belts 2 and 3 by means of a jet of air.
[0036] The perforated conveyor belt 15 is part of a film supply unit indicated globally by number 16, which, in the case of cleaning and maintenance operations, can be advantageously swiveled downwards to facilitate such operations.
[0037] According to the present invention, the reel 6 of stretch film is unwound keeping its own axis initially fixed (unlike the prior art technique, where the reel rotates several times around the group of articles), while the group of articles is realized by means of rotation and means for retaining which causes it to rotate with the consequent winding of the film.
[0038] The innovative procedure to which the present invention refers, therefore, to a procedure for the cold packaging of groups of articles in packages by means of stretch film 7, unwound from a reel 6 with a fixed axis of rotation, comprising the steps of: - providing stretch film (7) to a packaging station (5); - securing a group of articles to be packed by coupling the stretch film to the group of articles; - lifting the group of articles or, alternatively, the opening of a trapdoor placed between an incoming conveyor belt and an outgoing conveyor belt, in order to avoid interference with the conveyor belts of the articles; - rotating the group of articles that drag the film on around you; - cutting the film; - reducing the group of articles or, alternatively, closing the trapdoor; - releasing the package to an unloading area.
[0039] The film is fed by means of an air jet to the packaging station through an opening or slot present between the inlet and outlet conveyor belts so as to automatically wrap itself around the articles as a result of its rotation.
